I — Where it started
My mother, the first boss I ever knew.
I grew up watching my mother work harder than anyone I knew. She bought her own business — a funeral home — and built it into something of her own, on her own terms. Watching her lead, make the hard calls and be the boss shaped everything I believe about what women in business can do.
II — First lessons
My first stock at ten. My first customers soon after.
She taught me business early. She put me through financial courses, taught me about stocks and bought me my first one when I was ten. Before long I was selling candy, fidget spinners and slime at flea markets and at school — my first lessons in customers, pricing and hustle.
III — Why beauty
Watching Mariyah build her business.
I met one of my close friends, Mariyah (@beautybymariyah), in high school, right as she was starting her business. I got to see it all up close, from the early days to now. Every year she got a little busier, her work got better, and more people knew her name. Today she runs a thriving business in both nails and lashes, and being that good at both is no small thing. Honestly, my admiration for her hustle and business acumen is what inspired me to work with women in this industry.
I've always been close with the women in my life, so I knew how often they booked their maintenance and what they invested in it. I could see how much more these artists could build with real guidance and direction behind them.
"Talent fills a chair. Strategy fills a calendar."
IV — Today
Lessons from running a service business.
Today, I co-own The Polished Pit, a mobile auto detailing business I started with two close friends a year and a half ago. Running a service business taught me what actually brings clients through the door: local SEO, Meta ads, follow-up funnels and customer service that turns first-timers into regulars. Every one of those lessons translates directly to a beauty business — and I bring all of them to the women I work with.
V — Why Louis & Brown
My mother showed me what one determined woman can build. Louis & Brown exists to give every woman like her the strategy to match her strength.
